Photography Gear

Though photographic equipment won't go out and make great images for you, good quality gear does make that task rather easier. My gear nowadays is pretty much exclusively Canon. I use Canon EOS Digital bodies. The image quality of the 20D (and previously 10D and D60) allows printing to A3 and beyond.

For low light wildlife photography a 70-200mm f2.8IS makes an ideal partner for the 300mm f2.8 lens with teleconvertors and provide a light but fast option when going out with a single lens. When I 'go light' I like to use Lowepro belt pouches and a Toploader zoom pouch.

Also in the bag (A LowePro Mini-trekker) you’ll find.......

  • 28-135mm ‘do it all’ lens
  • 20-35mm for wide angles
  • 100mm macro which works really well with teleconvertors
  • a really close focusing 20mm Sigma which is great for flower and fungus close ups in confined spaces
  • a 50mm f1.8 standard lens
  • Nixvue Vista and Giga One Drives for downloading memory cards in the field
  • A few other sundries such as flash guns and close up filters and that’s about it.
  • I generally put the camera and lens on a beanbag, tripod or home made support to help stabilize the outfit.

The majority of my equipment is purchased at Wilkinson Cameras in Blackburn. I value the customer support and competitive prices Wilkinson Cameras offer. Their after sales service is second to none and I believe loyalty to suppliers is important. I am fortunate that I have one of the best in the UK in my home town.
