Biography

I hope that my photography gives enjoyment to others and with certain images make the viewer think about the preservation of the world's natural beauty, a fragile resource which needs to be protected. My background is firmly in biology and environmental geography. At college the course on animal behaviour kindled my interest in photography, initially to record species and behaviour. I try to make a pictorial composition from the subjects I shoot rather than making a simple record shot. I do like to visit new places but I enjoy planning trips and visualizing an image before going into the field for photography. For me part of the excitement is the anticipation of photography.

I am aiming to get something different, something which makes people look twice at the image. If this is considered artistic or creative, then this is a bonus, but ultimately I take images for myself. My favourite photographic location, however has got to be Africa and I have been fortunate to have visited many of the large National Parks in the Cape area. This year's Africa project were trips to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, VIctoria Falls and Namaqualand in South Africa during the flowering season. In the winter months I will be visiting Donna Nook and Martin Mere to create new images.
